Earlier this year I felt the need to share with my friends on Social Media my desire to shoot a wedding in my parent’s homeland the island of Jamaica. Well, that dream came true! Even better, it was the wedding of the sister of a long time college friend of mine Jeff and the wedding date was 12.13.14 the last sequential date that will ever be! Triple Awesomeness.
The day started out with big clouds looming over Montego Bay. As I photographed Chez the groom preparing for the wedding only the threat of rain was the problem. He kept saying, “Well people say that rain on a wedding day means Good Luck.” His optimism was so refreshing. With his attitude, I was positive that we would get some good images no matter the circumstances. By the time I reached Deeanna’s quarters the rain began to pour down. With some quick, minor adjustments the staff at The Riu Montego Bay accommodated DeeAnna and Chez’s nuptials and everything ran smoothly after all.
Deeanna walked into the ceremony on her father’s arm only to have the blessing of having the ceremony officiated by her big brother Jeff. It was an intimate ceremony with 13 people (Including me and my assistant). After the rings were exchanged the family/friends of groom prayed for the bride and vice versa. It was truly a moving ceremony.
After the ceremony we took the opportunity to walk around the Resort to find places to shoot the portraits and to get shelter from the rain. As we walked around I began to realize that instead of treating the rain like an uninvited guest, we should treat it like the life of the party! In the rain, we ended up creating some cool images and awesome memories! Isn’t in ironic? Don’t ya think? <—– I had to…
Cheers to the Deeanna and Chez!
